It's not Friday yet, but...

Orlando sports columnists asks, "have you ever met anyone named Defeat?"

According to Ancestry.com's 1900 census database, in 1899, Defeat Keels was born in Hope, South Carolina. That's the only appearance of defeat in the US census through 1930. There is a "Defeat Hurtz" in the Public Records section. I question whether that is a 'real name' or someone having fun with the phonebook. (I know people who have listed their phone number under the cat's name. Makes it easy to screen calls.)

Comparatively, there are significantly more Lucifers in the census than there are Defeats. That says something.

  1. And let's not forget the unfortunately named "Loser Loser," who lived in Chicago in 1870. The guy never stood a chance.

  2. I wonder if Loser's next door neighbors in 1870 have any famous kin today.
