My blog archives in the left sidebar indicate the number of posts per month. A quick glance suggests something happened at the end of May. Posts dropped significantly. And in July they dropped further.
We only have 24 hours in a day, and 168 hours in a week, so doing everything one wants to do is a matter of setting priorities. In recent months I have had to budget time for something that I didn't need to budget time for the first half of the year. I'm certainly not complaining, but blogging was and is a lower priority.
In the past few months my weekly Sunday and Monday posts absorbed most if not all of my blogging time. That's going to change.
I'm dropping my Sunday "Weekly Picks." I'm also going to decrease my Google Reader subscriptions significantly. I'm hoping that the time I've spent each week in this area can be redistributed to more than one post. And may even leave some additional time for other things.
Monthly Picks?
ReplyDeletePart of the time I am conserving is the actual reading of the posts, searching for those to pick.
ReplyDeleteI've been subscribing to about 213 genealogy blogs, bookmarking those of interest during the week, then composing the post from those bookmarks. Composing the post took about an hour, but I think I can reduce my blog reading to about 50 blogs. That's really the time that's being saved.
I could do a weekly/fortnightly/monthly post from those I am continuing to read, but I think it would be better to return to what i was doing before January 2010 (which is when I started doing the weekly picks)
When I see a post that strikes me, write my own post in response/reaction. I can be a rather verbose individual in a short amount of time, as this comment indicates.
I may also hit the "share" button more often while going through my genealogy blog reading, so those following me through Google Buzz will see what I share. A daily picks of sorts.
I may compose a post to explain that process this weekend, along with indicating a few other geneabloggers who I've noticed are doing similar daily picks.
Sorry to see you dropping the "Weekly Picks" but I understand why. It's just that I've come to depend on your weekly finds as well as those of several other bloggers. It's extremely difficult to keep up with everything while traveling and it was nice to have your weekly roundup. Thanks for your past Picks...
